Why Drug Education Classes Are Important

When my son became a teenager, I worried about him hanging out with the wrong kids at school or getting involved in activities that were illegal or not suitable for his goals in life. My son has always been a good child and has never been in trouble for anything serious. However, when he started high school, I wanted to make sure that he would be aware of the consequences of using drugs. I spoke with his football coach about this and he told me that the coaches had decided to hold drug education classes for the whole team. I loved the fact that the coaches were having these classes because I knew that if him and his friends learned about the dangers of drugs, especially how drugs could impact their athletic performance, that the kids would not want to do them. My son came home after the class and talked to me about everything he learned. He said I did not have to worry about him doing drugs because he saw how people who did drugs landed in jail, lost their families and even died.

Alcohol Awareness Classes Drastically Reduced Underage Drinking

After a series of horrific alcohol-related accidents happened in our area, the local high school started offering Alcohol Awareness Classes. What was great about our community is that most of the townspeople were in attendance for the classes right along with the kids. Everyone from bartenders to store owners and concerned parents went to the classes and the teens knew we would all be well-equipped to keep watch over them and ourselves. While this area is not known for being "dry," everyone learned a lot of responsibility about having and using alcohol, especially with young people in our presence or in our homes. Making adults aware of the risks involved to the kids and making the kids aware that they were being watched for their own safety has drastically cut down on incidences of underage drinking in our town. I believe it has also given the young adults a ready excuse not to party with friends when they can tell them that their parents are watching and checking on them.

Learning About Recovery

Drug Education Classes are a great way to learn about addiction. However, classes are different than working a recovery program. If you believe that you have an addiction problem understand the classes are great way to learn about how drugs interact with the body and how you might go about to manage your cravings. However, it doesn't teach you a practical daily approach to living with this disease. Because make no mistake about it, you have an illness that is incurable. Many people die because they believe that they are stronger than the drug. While this may be true throughout most of the day, all you need is one vulnerable minute and your back off on a drug binge. That's why it's great to have education about drugs and how to manage your use of them. It's a great first step for a life that is bound to be full of recovery.

The Devil in Booze

Alcohol Awareness Classes are a great first step towards recovery. If you have enrolled in a alcohol awareness class then odds are somebody thinks you have a problem. Maybe that somebody is you, or maybe you are involuntarily mandated to attend classes. Whoever it is, you should be thankful you are there. I know, I know, who wants to be thankful about having to go to alcohol awareness class? Well, for one, you should be. Having the opportunity to become more aware of how alcohol negatively affects her life is something that not everybody gets. Take a walk down any city block and you'll be sure to find evidence of people who weren't given the opportunity to go to alcohol awareness class or didn't take that class seriously. After all, alcohol is a cunning and baffling disease. The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he didn't exist. Alcoholism is no different.
