Alcohol Awareness Classes- Why They Are Important

Alcohol awareness classes are taught throughout the United States for a variety of reasons. First, people need to be educated in the effects alcohol can have on the body in the short term and the long term. In the short term alcohol can deaden your reflexes which can make it dangerous to operate machinery such as cars, boats, trains and aircraft. Secondly, long term alcohol abuse can damage one's liver if the drug is abused. This can can cause cirrhosis and eventual death in extreme cases of alcoholism. Alcohol Awareness Classes can also educate people on how people can become addicted to drinking. Studies have shown that alcoholism can be passed down from generation to generation. This is due to two factors. First, a person may have a genetic disposition to not handle alcohol well. Secondly, drinking may introduced as a socially accepted medium and used as a way to communicate amongst family members. Many alcohol awareness programs are targeted towards teenagers, because they may have easy access to the drug and may not make the best decisions as it relates to drinking. Sadly, this age group suffers needless deaths every year due to drinking and driving.
