Drunk driving is the worst thing that a person can do. I received the phone call over a year ago that my daughter had been hit by a drunk driver and that she had died. I could not believe the grief that I felt, because I just could not believe that someone would do such a horrible thing. The person that hit my daughter was found and was sentenced to fifty years in prison, and we were very happy about the conviction, even though it really did not give us any peace as a family. I decided that I was going to change our tragedy into a triumph and I started teaching alcohol awareness classes. I have also been advising parents to enroll their kids in online alcohol classes to learn about the risks of drinking and what can happen if they drink and drive. No one should ever have to experience the loss of a child by a drunk driver, but I am doing all that I can to make sure that another mother does not have to go through what I did.
